When moving house there is lots to consider; from the very big things like choosing the removals company and changing your address with your bank right down to the little things, like packing your jewellery. This may seem like a very small part of your house move – but it is also a very important part of your move!
Remember every year after Christmas when you take the Christmas tree down, you throw the lights in a bag and then the next year you get the Christmas tree out and spend hours getting the knots and tangles out of the Christmas lights? It’s exactly the same with jewellery, with a little extra care and attention and by following these jewellery packing hacks you can save yourself a lot of time when it comes to pack and more importantly unpacking your jewellery after your house move.
Firstly place long and short necklaces on a piece of plastic wrap or cling film, place another sheet of plastic wrap or cling film on top and squeeze out the air bubbles. This will help save your necklaces from getting into knots or tangling with other necklaces so they can be unpacked and worn quickly and easily.
If you have lots of stud or smaller earrings use pill and tablet boxes and pots to store them, saving them from getting lost in jewellery bags and such like. If you don’t have any pill boxes to hand then egg cartons and similar small cartons and containers will do the job. If you have any boxes and containers going spare use them in the garage or shed for bolts, nuts, screws and similar small items.
You can also use buttons to keep stud earrings together, fastening them through the button holes and then perhaps putting them in the earlier mentioned containers and boxes. This is actually a good organisational hack you can use in your jewellery box when you move into your new home.
As tempting as it may be to pack jewellery in with your clothes and other bedroom items, opt for a standalone bag instead, this means you’ll be able to find them quickly and easily without having to rummage through all your packed boxes if you need something to wear at the local to your new home.
